At EverGlade Consulting, we are always on the lookout for new funding opportunities that can help our clients advance their research and development goals. Today, we’re excited to inform you about a new Request for Applications (RFA) from the National Institutes of Health (NIH): RFA-HG-24-004.

Funding Opportunity:

Title: Investigating the Role of Genomic Variation on Gene Regulation and Disease

Funding Opportunity Number: RFA-HG-24-004

Purpose: This RFA invites applications to investigate how genomic variation affects gene regulation and how this, in turn, contributes to human health and disease. This funding opportunity aims to support research that will lead to a better understanding of the mechanisms through which genomic variation influences gene function and regulation.

Key Dates:

  • Letter of Intent Due Date: August 9, 2024
  • Application Due Date: September 9, 2024
  • Scientific Merit Review: November 2024
  • Advisory Council Review: January 2025
  • Earliest Start Date: April 2025

Funding Information:

  • Total Funding: NIH intends to fund an estimated total of $10 million for the fiscal year 2024.
  • Number of Awards: Approximately 5-7 awards.
  • Award Budget: Application budgets are not limited but must reflect the actual needs of the proposed project.
  • Project Period: The maximum project period is 5 years.

Research Objectives:

Applicants are encouraged to propose studies that leverage existing genomic data and apply innovative methods to explore:

  1. Genomic Variation: Investigate how different types of genomic variation, including single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), structural variants, and epigenomic modifications, affect gene regulation.
  2. Gene Regulation Mechanisms: Elucidate the mechanisms by which genomic variation influences gene expression, including the roles of enhancers, promoters, non-coding RNAs, and other regulatory elements.
  3. Disease Mechanisms: Explore how these regulatory mechanisms contribute to the etiology of human diseases, with a focus on identifying potential therapeutic targets.

Eligibility:

  • Eligible Applicants: Higher education institutions, nonprofits, for-profit organizations, governments, and other entities.
  • Foreign Institutions: Non-U.S. institutions are eligible to apply.

Application and Submission Information:

Applications must be submitted electronically via the NIH ASSIST system. Detailed instructions for submission, including formatting requirements and review criteria, are provided in the RFA.

Contact Information:

For additional information regarding the application process and requirements, please refer to the full RFA or contact the program officer listed in the announcement.

Why This Opportunity Matters:

This funding opportunity represents a significant investment by the NIH to advance our understanding of the genetic basis of disease. By exploring the intricate relationships between genomic variation, gene regulation, and disease mechanisms, this research has the potential to uncover new insights that could lead to the development of novel therapeutic strategies and improve human health.
