CHIPS Act Funding
The CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 provides the Department of Commerce with $50 billion for a suite of programs to strengthen and revitalize the U.S. position in semiconductor research, development, and manufacturing—while also investing in American workers. The CHIPS Act Funding, administered by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), provides a unique opportunity for private entities or consortia of private and public entities to receive financial support for the construction, expansion, or modernization of commercial facilities for the fabrication of leading-edge, current-generation, and mature-node semiconductors. Funding opportunities are also available for smaller-scale supply chain projects for semiconductor materials and manufacturing equipment facilities.
Opportunities for engagement are presented through Notices of Funding Opportunities. To date, CHIPS for America has released two funding opportunities: one for Commercial Fabrication Facilities and one for Small-Scale Supply Chain Projects.
